and it is really taxing on our workforce. and when i say our workforce, is no it is not just people in the city and non-profits, all of the employees that are disaster workers -- we've had to retrain librarians and rec and park staff and other people who have not hired to do these jobs, to work with this population in these capacities. we are not going to be able to place our entire homeless population into hotel rooms. but what we're trying to do is get creative around how we're able to provide them help and to find safe locations where we can divert the tents off of the sidewalks, off of the streets into larger areas and larger parking lots. specifically we're looking at everett middle school as an option, and we're working with supervisor mandelman on that. and we're looking at other locations in the bay view. we have trailers that we received from the state and that we also purchased, that we plan to place at pier 92, to move people out of tents and into the shelters, people who are residents of the bay view. we're trying

an update on our crime statistics for the week. during the fifth week of the shelter-in-place order which was from april 13 to april 19, we saw an increase in violent crimes, which was led by 11 additional robberies over the previous week and two additional assaults. we saw 31% decrease in part 1 property crime, which was 154 fewer property crimes from the previous week. there was a 25% decrease in part 1 crimes. that means there were 142 fewer crimes than the previous week. this is compared to the week of april 6 through april 12, which was the fourth week of the shelter-in-place order. again, we've had burglaries and vandalism of businesses. we continue to step up our patrols in that area to make sure our businesses are protected as much as we can protect them while they are closed. we have had some arrests in those cases. again, i would like to thank our partnership with the district attorney and his office. they have been able to add looting charges to 19 of these instances of burglary. we thank them for their partnership there

kemp: one thing i would add there, too, on our call today with the president and vice president and dr. birx was going over some testing things that they gave us. they had one graph, too, that showed the volume of the private sector testing that's going on in the private labs so there's a lot of capacity there. there was a point made, i think it was two of those calls ago where, because the states were doing more, it was opening up more and more capacity at the private labs. they were speeding up. if you remember, you know, weeks ago, it was taking five to eight days to get those tests back and i think that is speeding up, and then they have a lot of availability in the private labs, too, which is a good thing. reporter: question for dr. toomey. as far as contact tracing goes, has the state done anything like this before? and how involved will the state be? what resources will the state put towards contact tracing? dr. toomey: we've been doing contact tracing for years, for many infectious diseases and have been -- have done it for coronavirus, covid-19, as well early in the epidemic.

need them in our hospitals, our hotels, on the streets, driving our buses and all of the things that we see so many of them doing. again, i just want to continue to take the opportunity when possible to thank the incredible workforce in san francisco. the fact is when i say these people are putting their lives on the line, that is not an understatement. they are putting their lives on the line when they step on the buses and hundreds of thousands of people get on the buses every single day. they're putting their lives on the line when, for example, our paramedics have to go out and be physical with someone with someone whose life they're trying to safe. they're putting their lives on the line when they walk in the door to serve patients. they truly are the folks who are showing up in the hotels and working with the vulnerable homeless population. the people who are showing up to laguna honda and continuing to make sure those patients are clean and fed and well taken care of every single day. and i just want to express again my appreciation for the work that so many incredible city em

an update on our crime statistics for the week.during the fifth week of the shelter-in-place order which was from april 13 to april 19, we saw an increase in violent crimes, which was led by 11 additional robberies over the previous week and two additional assaults. we saw 31% decrease in part 1 property crime, which was 154 fewer property crimes from the previous week. there was a 25% decrease in part 1 crimes. that means there were 142 fewer crimes than the previous week. this is compared to the week of april 6 through april 12, which was the fourth week of the shelter-in-place order. again, we've had burglaries and vandalism of businesses. we continue to step up our patrols in that area to make sure our businesses are protected as much as we can protect them while they are closed. we have had some arrests in those cases. again, i would like to thank our partnership with the district attorney and his office. they have been able to add looting charges to 19 of these instances of burglary. we thank them for their partnership there.
